Jhoom-Bollywood founder Marshie Perera Rajakumar began teaching in March 2005, initially with Jhanak Dance Company (of which she was also a co-founder), and has developed a range of class styles and teaching techniques that make Bollywood dance fun and accessible. All routines are performed to fun and fabulous Bollywood film songs, ranging from old favourites to current hits.Experience this exciting form of modern Indian “Filmi” dancing influenced by Classical Indian (eg Bharatnatyam, Kathak, Mohiniattum, Odissi); Indian Folk Dances (eg Bhangra, Raas, Dandiya); Jazz; Funk and Hip Hop

Rajakumar says that everything from hip-hop to ballet to salsa can be worked into a routine. "What they've done is to take certain aspects of Indian classical and folk dance and then fuse it together with styles from the rest of the world. So people can do these (moves) at parties without having to have trained in it." It's also fun. Rajakumar's company specialises in "the very tongue-in-cheek dance style of Bollywood.
